New to ioLoop? Start here to learn what you can build and how it works.
ioLoop is an AI-powered app development platform for building, publishing, and running web applications. It brings together AI assistance, visual page design, visual programming, a Database, integrations, and the ability to add your own code.
You can build a range of web applications, including customer portals, billing systems, business operations software, dashboards, internal tools, registration systems, websites and more.
An app can include pages, forms, data, business logic, integrations, and AI Agents, depending on what you need.
No. You can describe what you want to AI Wiz, design pages visually, and use visual programming to define application logic.
If you do know how to code, you can add JavaScript, CSS, and supported libraries. You can combine visual tools, code, and AI assistance in the same app.
AI Wiz builds within ioLoop’s application framework, where the parts of your app are organized into identifiable components such as Pages, Database tables, and Cloud Flow modules.
You can use visual tools to edit pages and program both frontend and backend logic, while retaining the option to write code. The result is an app you can continue to understand and shape after AI has helped create it.
ioLoop includes the platform capabilities for building and running your app, including a Database, frontend and backend logic, access controls, and publishing. You can also connect external services when your app needs them.
Yes. The Free plan lets you create and explore one app, includes AI Wiz credits, and lets you publish using an automatically assigned ioLoop URL.
The Free plan has a monthly app usage-minute allowance. See Pricing for current plan details.
Yes. You can create web interfaces for computers, tablets, and phones, and preview your pages as you develop them.
Your app’s layout and behavior can be designed and tested for the screen sizes your users need.
Learn how AI Wiz helps you create, understand, and refine your app.
AI Wiz is ioLoop’s AI coding and app development agent. Describe what you want to build or change, and AI Wiz can help create, explain, and modify supported parts of your app.
AI Wiz works inside the Project Editor, so you can continue developing your app with AI assistance, visual tools, and code.
Yes. You can ask AI Wiz to add features, update existing components, revise logic, or help investigate a problem.
When requesting a change, you can also describe what should stay the same—for example, asking it to update a page’s layout while preserving its existing behavior and access settings.
Yes. AI Wiz works with ioLoop’s organized project components. You can find the Pages, Forms, Database tables, flows, and code it creates in the Project Editor.
Inspect and edit them directly using the relevant visual tools or code editors, or ask AI Wiz to help you refine them.
No. You can directly edit your pages, configure your Database, change visual logic, or write code yourself. AI Wiz remains available whenever you want its help.
Yes. AI Wiz can create and modify supported Page Flow and Cloud Flow logic. You can inspect and edit the visual blocks it creates, and use custom JavaScript alongside them where needed.
Page Flow controls browser-side behavior; Cloud Flow handles server-side logic.
AI Wiz credits are used for AI-assisted development requests. Your plan includes a monthly credit allowance, and paid plans can purchase additional credits.
Yes. Your remaining credit balance is visible in the AI Wiz window, and individual responses can display the credits used for that response.
You can also select your balance to review AI Wiz credit usage for the past 12 months.
Understand how ioLoop’s visual tools and APIs work with standard web technologies.
Yes. ioLoop frontends run in the browser using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. You can use standard browser Web APIs and supported third-party JavaScript libraries alongside ioLoop’s frontend capabilities.
Yes. You can use ioLoop’s Page Elements, Forms, Widgets, and Page Flow alongside custom JavaScript and CSS.
For example, a page can have a visually designed layout, a Data Table Widget, and a custom interactive component written in JavaScript.
The Client API provides JavaScript functions for supported ioLoop capabilities in the browser. It includes functions for working with page content, interface behavior, Forms, and permitted app data.
You can call the Client API from your own frontend JavaScript as well as from supported custom code in Page Flow.
Yes. You can build a custom frontend using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, browser Web APIs, and if required the ioLoop Client API.
For example, you could create a specialized dashboard, interactive editor, or SPA-style experience. You can also use custom code for one part of a page and ioLoop’s visual tools for the rest.
Yes. You can include supported third-party browser libraries and use them from your custom frontend code. For example, a page could use a charting library alongside ioLoop’s visual elements and Client API.
Understand how server-side logic works in ioLoop and how visual programming and JavaScript fit together.
Backend logic runs on the server in Cloud Flow, using ioLoop’s managed Node.js environment. This is separate from Page Flow and frontend JavaScript, which run in the user’s browser.
Use backend logic for work such as enforcing business rules, processing requests, or using protected service credentials.
No. You can build Cloud Flow logic using visual programming blocks, JavaScript, or a combination of both.
For example, you can keep the main steps of a workflow visible as blocks and use JavaScript for a specialized calculation or integration operation.
The Server API provides functions that Cloud Flow JavaScript can use to work with supported ioLoop backend capabilities, including Database operations, files, Connections, and system functions.
Cloud Flow also provides visual blocks for many backend operations, so you can choose the approach that fits your logic.
Yes. Cloud Flow provides a controlled Node.js environment with supported Node.js modules and a curated selection of third-party libraries and SDKs.
You can use the available modules from custom JavaScript, including supported authenticated SDK objects for some Connections. The runtime does not allow arbitrary npm packages to be installed.
No. Forms, Widgets, Page Flow, ioLoop Client API's database functions, and custom frontend JavaScript can perform supported Database operations directly when the current user’s access rules permit them.
Use Cloud Flow when an operation needs server-side capabilities, protected credentials, additional authorization, or business rules that must be enforced on the server.
No. ioLoop does not charge separately for the CPU cycles or RAM your backend uses, or for each server operation it performs.
Your app runs within its allocated capacity. If it needs more capacity, you can add a Compute Unit at a fixed monthly price.
Learn how your app stores, accesses, and manages its data.
Yes. Each ioLoop app has its own Database, where you can define the tables and fields used by that app.
No. The Database is part of the ioLoop platform. You can create and manage your app’s tables, fields, queries, and access settings through the Project Editor. AI Wiz can also help create and modify supported Database components.
Yes. File fields let you associate one or more files with a record—for example, a receipt with an order or an attachment with a support request.
Files associated with a record follow the access rules of their table.
Built-in Database operations during Preview automatically use the development database. Where your plan supports a production database, the published app uses production data.
No. Your app’s Database operations do not consume runtime credits or generate per-operation charges. Your app operates within the capacity and allowances of your plan and any add-ons you choose.
Understand what you pay for, how AI credits work, and how ioLoop keeps app costs predictable.
